As much as I love Rice Krispies, unfortunately I’m not talking about their merry snap, crackle, and pop in a bowl of milk. What I’m talking about is much more somber.
I was walking down the hall in my office like I always do. Nothing was different; the same walk I make a hundred times a day. And then it happened. Completely sudden. Completely terrifying. Completely unwanted. Snap. Crackle. Pop. I wobbled a little bit and kept walking. I knew what had happened, but I didn’t want to believe it. I didn’t want to stop walking. I couldn’t stop walking. Stopping would be admitting, surrendering. I made it back to my desk and evaluated the damage. Yep. The snap, crackle and pop was exactly what I thought it was. Exactly what I didn’t want it to be. My favorite, most comfortable, classic black 3 1/2 – inch stiletto heel broke.
Black "Criss-Cross" Stiletto, beloved shoe of Kristan and loving friend of the NYC pavement, passed away after a long, wonderful life. After countless “surgeries” with the shoe repair man and numerous polishes, it was finally time. In celebration of a wonderful life, family and friends are invited to meet at the quintessential Manhattan store which recently revamped its shoe department so now it is so big it has its own Zip code – 10022-SHOE – on Saturday, October 13, 2007. At request, there will not be a visitation and in lieu of flowers, memorials made to The Kristan Foundation would be appreciated.

Ok, so I panicked slightly during the first two paragraphs of your post. I thought you broke your ankle in some sort of freak accident. Which of course is why you would be blogging about it mere hours later. I guess I'm not the brightest crayon in the box.
I am so very sorry for your loss.
Tragic! I'm so sorry. I remember when you bought those shoes (they're the ones from the shoe store on the corner, right? Or am I mistaken?)
So sad.
SO SAD! But on the bright side, you have an excellent excuse to go shopping.
Kristan, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It reminds me of the tragedy freshman year that our ward suffered. The loss of the May Hall goldfish. Actually, this is much worse. Now you don't have to feel guilty about buying a new pair of shoes. How do you walk around so much in three and a half heels anyways?
