Ready for Friday

RE: how do you pack for 14 days when half is business and half is beach?

Answer: With 8 pairs of shoes. Flip flops, sandals (x2), heels, flats (x2), jellies (yes, jellies and I love them!) and running shoes. And I was impressed I didn't pack more!

My co-workers who think I only packed for 4 days are laughing at my luggage.

Data Dump

How do you pack for 14 days when half is business and half is beach? Oh the dilemma, I know. So I'm procrastinating, naturally.

- Talk about First World Problem, my cleaning lady didn't show up on Friday and I was mega upset. Have I told you that when I decided to hire someone to clean for me it changed. my. life. I highly recommend it.
- I packed six books, despite the fact that something tells me I won't read more than two.
- I saw Super 8 with Mel this week because we wanted - no needed - a Coach Taylor fix. First, don't go see a somewhat scary movie with a jumpy person. The first time Mel screamed, I screamed too because she grabbed me. I had no idea what I was getting myself into, and I didn't love it. Was it a good movie? Sure. Just not my type.
- I walked in Sam's Club last Saturday and stopped in my tracks in front of the TV display. I was distracted by the movie preview being shown on all 20 TVs. Yes, I stopped and watched the whole 3 minutes preview right in the middle of the aisle. Monte Carlo (or The Lizzie McGuire Movie 10 years later) is my type of movie :)
- I'm embarrassingly white. My family may disown me. Remember two years ago when we documented Day 1, 7 and 14 of tan-ness. I'll be luckily to hit my Day 1 mark on this years Day 7. Stupid job.
- I just went and grabbed two books out of my bag. Look at me packing light.
- RE: The List #7 - I started watching Dawson's Creek and it should be no surprise to anyone that I'm addicted. My parents wouldn't let me watch in high school, but at 27 it's just as classic. Such a great decision.
- I've found telling car salesmen that I just moved from New York allows me to be rude and pushy when they try to "sell." What part of just test driving did you miss?
- I found myself wishing the weekend away yesterday because I'm so excited for tomorrow's Bachelorette. Issues. Major issues.
- Let me introduce something that will Change. Your. Life. Maybe you're already in the know, but Caisa introduced the sisters to GroupMe last week and my phone has been beeping nonstop ever since. Group texting. I've had email chains with friends that are just fabulous, but the instant-ness of texting in a group format is just fantastic. It's a good thing the sisters have unlimited texting plans. Best invention of the year.

Okay, I must get back to packing. Hilton Head, via Connecticut, here I come.

Bielibers Forever

Last fall I signed up for the 5K Dirty Dash , somehow June rolled around and I convinced Samantha, Melissa, Candice and Melanie to put up with me and join the team. Well 3.1 miles in the mud through obstacles soaking wet covered in mud is fun . . . but it's WAY more entertaining when you run with Team Bielibers - Samantha "One Time", Melissa "That Should Be Me", Candice "One Less Lonely Girl," Melanie "Never Say Never" and me "I Can't Decide." I will openly admit I love busting out to a little JB.

Like any good team we had matching outfits, complete with homemade I heart Bieber shirts, headbands and Bieber inspired names. But wait, it gets better. We wake up and get ready to leave and out come Samantha, Melissa and Candice with the Zac Efron cut-out (yes, Sam has one and yes, she brought it out to college with her) - but Zac had gotten a bit of a face lift . . . to become JB. So funny. Hilarity ensued for the rest of the afternoon.

We arrived at the race and Melissa immediately started showing JB off. Oh the looks we got. Who are these girls? And who on earth are they carrying around with them? We got plenty of laughs and even a couple of pictures. Don't worry two of us are over the age of 25. No big deal.

Before:

After:

I thought the race would be a little bit of mud, some obstacles and a little running. It was actually lots harder than I thought, and mud everywhere. Everywhere.

It was a gorgeous day and a ton of fun. Thanks ladies for the good times!

And we couldn't have done it without Team Mom Caisa. I mean we needed someone to look after JB while we were running.

Never one to shy away from mud wrestling or a camera - Samantha, Candice and Melissa have quite a few appearances in this video (0:18, 0:26, 1:12 and 2:14).

Slightly Awkward

While traveling this past week with my boss:

At the hotel getting in the elevator my boss hits "3" -
C: What floor do you need?
K: 20 (the top floor)
C: Oh, look at you.

At the airport boarding our flight -
We're scheduled to be just a few rows apart, my boss is grabbing something and I go ahead and board. As they scan my boarding pass I find out I've been upgraded.
Email: Did you get upgraded? I know you boarded, but I don't see you.

Apparently I have higher hotel and airline status than my boss. Kind of comical. Kind of awkward.

One More Than Three - The List IV

I've been thinking about this list all week. I really can't believe this is my fourth summer list. I really can't believe it's already summer. Four. It's kind of like Senior Year. But I'm not getting ready to go off to university or start my first job. I've been a greedy capitalist pig for a while now. No big changes on the horizon. First, there was my pre-student life "Ladies Who Lunch" summer break. Then came the "I'm a student and still don't want to grow-up" summer. Finally, I accepted being an adult had my "Last hurrah, Nesting and Discovering SLC" summer. Now what? What will this summer bring? Where did the last year go? How about my summer of enjoying real life . . . just living the dream working hard for my money.*

The Non 9-to-5* - Playing Hard to Make a Living:

1. Work less, Play more
2. Create (or should I say finish) my wall gallery
3. Reupholster (or should I say pick fabric and find an upholstery shop) my ottoman
4. Create another "home" project
5. Continue to read: but this year I'm challenging myself: three, at least three classics
6. Keeping with the theme, watch three classic movies I've never seen before
7. Watch a "classic" TV show on DVD (this is becoming my favorite "I'm bored in some city in some hotel room" ritual)
8. Take a class - on anything
9. Re-read an old school book or notes (Things from school pop in my head all the time at work, maybe I should start acting on those and actually remember what I learned!)
10. Spend too much money on gas driving to Provo to enjoy pool days with Caisa and Samantha
11. Make a point to see friends often
12. Drink Diet Coke. Last year I denied myself for no good reason.
13. Create something fabulous out of my recent favorite purchase: an antique Coca-Cola wooden tray
14. Make homemade ice cream
15. Go to a Braves Game
16. Go to a Yankees Game
17. Visit NYC
18. Maybe an LA SYTYCD trip (Bubba!?)
19. At least plan, if not go, on an international trip
20. Give Diamond Medallion status a run for it's money
21. Eat Mellow Mushroom pretzels until I can't eat any more pretzels in Hilton Head
22. Tan my little heart out
23. Enjoy another beautiful summer night in Park City at the Deer Valley Music Festival
24. Try something new for me: The Utah Shakespearean Festival in Cedar City
25. Buy flowers at the Farmer's Market
26. Run 3.1 miles covered in mud
27. Ride a bike
28. Celebrate my golden birthday in style
29. Sparklers, lots of sparklers
30. Host a party
31. Write; I think about it all the time, now DO
32. Organize my card collection and actually send cards instead of just buying them
33. Somehow successfully avoid buying a car
34. Use my phone to make phone calls - yes, I realize this may mean a new phone
35. Host a spendover
36. Use my camera; I've someone completely stopped taking pictures despite keeping it in my purse all the time
37. Swim

I can't wait! Bring on summer!
*Could I make any more horrible song references?

Rollin' With My Homies

Holly called a few weeks ago and told me the most tragic story. It began with her hearing a big "pop" while running and ended with this text picture.

One ruptured Achilles Tendon and one sexy green cast.

Wanting something to do for Memorial Day, wanting OUT OF THIS STILL FREEZING UTAH WEATHER, loving how skymiles make last minute trips possible and loving Holly - I booked a trip to the desert.

I'm a little disappointed I didn't get to push Holly in a wheelchair, but I had the best weekend ever. Some highlights:

- Five Sonic Route 44 DC trips. My sisters always joke that when I'm with Holly all we do is drink Diet Coke. That may be true; we're both enablers.
- Dinner and Desert in Scottsdale. I kid you not, I fall more and more in love with Scottsdale every time I go.
- Hours of chatting
- Manis and lunch with Paige
- Provo Pool Party. I have a surprising amount of old Provo friends now in AZ.
- Seeing Angela and little Molly
- Anne "Withanye"
- Fashion Independent: The Original Style of Ann Bonfoey Taylor at the Phoenix Art Museum. Hearing about confident, intelligent women with a strong sense of self is inspiring.
- 100 degree weather. I won't lie; getting in the car was HOT, but everything else (including my sun burned legs) was fabulous. Desert heat, I'll take you over Utah fake "spring" anytime.
- Being Holly's Personal Assistant. Knock on wood, I hope to never experience life on crutches - especially in 100 degree weather - but Holly took it like a champ and made it look effortless. One more reason she's awesome. She's says I helped her, but I'm pretty sure it was the other way around.

I wasn't ready for the weekend to end. There is never enough time to do and see everyone. Thank you 3-Day weekends! AZ, I will be back!
