I leave Utah and it Snows

I have never seen this much snow in my life. I'm not exaggerating. Off a mountain, I have never seen this much snow. It's crazy. It dumped 17 inches last night in Norwalk, CT pushing the January snowfall total to 47.8 inches, breaking the 65 year-old record of 45.3". And here I am in the office . . . praying my flight tonight doesn't get canceled.

Last week I was in Arkansas and Missouri, and it snowed.

Last time I was in Utah, it rained. This winter has been anything but normal.

No, But Really

Who even likes Biscoff cookies?

Every time I hear "peanuts, pretzels or cookies" I want to scream, "How dare you calls those cookies and get every ones hopes up!" Ew. Delta just stop.

Why of Course we Know the Pool Bar Employees by Name

This year Dad generously decided to continue the tradition of a New Year's trip. But this year for whatever reason my parents decided to keep the destination a secret. But here's the thing, we don't do secrets. As soon as one sister finds something out, she immediately texts all of the other sisters. We're not a big surprise family either. I for one like the planning. I like the excitement lead-in. And well, it's really really hard to surprise us because we're 1) really good sleuths - Veronica Mars taught us well - and 2) really really nosey. So when Mom told us she was keeping the location a secret, let's just say we weren't happy campers.

But then fate struck. I was checking in on Delta for a work trip and noticed I had a confirmation number for a ticket to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Thank you Dad for booking our tickets with our Skymiles numbers! And of course I immediately gchat Kelli. Which turns into a conference call with Dad. Which turns into Kelli telling all the other sisters. Which turns into this big secret that we all know, except Mom doesn't know that we know.

WHAT! We're going to Puerto Rico!?! comedy ensued over Thanksgiving break and all the way up to boarding our flight to PR.

Sadly, it rained the first few days we were in Puerto Rico. But it was still 80 degrees and humid - way better than snow. So we took a trip to the rainforest and toured the forts in Old San Juan.

Looking way sexy drenched in our rain gear by the Chanel No5 tree

We climbed to the top of this tower - check out our amazing view as a result

Old San Juan

Thankfully the sun came out! And our pale, white bodies rejoiced.

And so did the pool bar due to our constant flow of Diet Cokes. And I didn't even take this picture! Sam really is turning into her older sisters :)

We all enjoyed . . . er, laughed . . . while watching Sam "surfed."

Puerto Rico has a few bioluminescent bays. Sadly you can't swim in them anymore, but you can kayak. So we signed up for a kayak tour to see these plant/animal organisms light-up when agitated. It did "glow" as much as I expected, more of a stardust look but still really cool. But remember how I said you had to kayak to the bay. Yeah, that was a lot more work than any of us expected. Dad thought Shannan and I were going to kill each other with our inability to steer. But we made it.

And of course flirted with the guides.

And this is not a joke. I swear churros just find us. We're obsessed. I'm pretty sure we've had them on all of our past New Year's trips. Fried doughy sugary goodness. When we finished the kayak tour, we were drying off and there it was . . . The. Best. Churro. Cart. Ever. No but really, these churros were amazing.

And we celebrated New Year's Eve in the style - in our hotel room taking awkward photos and wishing midnight would just hurry up and get here.

Another great New Year's trip!

What were the highlights of Christmas Vacation?

1. Christmas Eve Traditions

Including awkward sister photos,

and signing at the top of our lungs in the car while looking at lights . . . and drinking Martinelli's

2. Our first white Christmas
Dad will argue otherwise, but I stand by the fact that this was my first white Christmas. We had heard there was snow coming, but then Christmas Eve turned out to be beautiful. And Christmas morning (we woke up at the early hour of 10am) was nice too . . . until we got in the hot tub.

3. The annual Christmas morning hot tub tradition continued
Things started out just fine . . .

And then this weird white stuff unknown in Georgia started falling . . .

Love Sam's tightly closed eyes in this photo

4. We became obsessed with Family Feud
Growing up I was always a little game show obsessed, but no one else was. So when I came home and the sisters had started playing Family Feud on Facebook and then on Wii, I couldn’t have been more thrilled. Oh, and don’t worry. We. Rock.

5. The removal of the Christmas tree
Not nearly as entertaining as the entrance, but it's a whole lot easier to throw it over the balcony than try to pull it up.

It wasn't dead at all . . .

6. The end of Christmas and the beginning of the New Years celebration in PUERTO RICO!
We escaped the winter weather (and luckily without any airport delays) for 80 degree San Juan.

What? This isn't normal?

Me: Hey Utah co-workers?
Co-Worker: Yes . . .
Me: I have a gift in my purse that I need to get wrapped, and I'm not going home first. So I don't want to go to Target to buy wrapping paper AND scissors and tape I don't need. So is there a store here in the area that will just wrap it for me?
Co-Worker: You're kidding right? You just want to pay someone to wrap a gift you didn't purchase in their store.
Me: Yes. This is not weird.
Co-Worker: You are so from New York.
