We didn't have any gladiator fights (Caisa is still in training for American Gladiators and couldn't risk the injury), but we saw the Colosseum. Did you know that originally the Colosseum could seat more than 60,000 people - Yankee Stadium only seats 57,545.
And then walked to the Roman Forum and Capitoline Hill.
Historians think this was a Roman mall - more than six stories high. When Dad found this out he said he now knew we could have survived Ancient Rome. But we were just all sad we didn't have time to do any real shopping in Rome. Tragic.
Before we headed over to Vatican City, we drove around and saw some sites from the tour bus and had lunch. Fantastic fresh, homemade pasta. For dessert we all had a little surprise of cognac on top of our gelato :) Opps. The best part was Sam was in the restroom when they brought out the dessert, and hers was the child non-alcoholic version. As soon as we all realized this we started passing her bowl around the table :)
After lunch we went to Vatican City. We spent most of the time at the Vatican Museums - Sistine Chapel, works by da Vinci, Raphael, Botticelli . . . The first time I was in Rome I remember flying through this museum. We basically walked in found the Sistine Chapel and walked out. Not only was it peak tourist season and overly crowded, but I could have cared less about the art. London changed all that. This time I absolutely loved the Vatican Museum - plus the guide added so much.
After the museum we walked to Saint Peter's Square and Saint Peter's Basilica.
Dad: Oh look Shannan, a confessional.
Shannan: Very funny.
Dad: You sit on one side, and I'll get on the other. Then you can confess. . . Oh wait, we don't have enough time.
And of course we had to make a gelato stop.

Oh I loved Rome and Pompei! We went on a cruise last summer with Clark's family and we had so much fun! The gelato was amazing too!
i can't believe you would publish such a secret about my training. i mean, really how rude.
This place looks totally cool. One place I want to visit for sure one day in my life. Oh and let me know how the trainig is going for Caisa. She's awesome!!
