Apparently 25 is the new Old

Yesterday I left my apartment to go to my pilates class and when I walked up to the elevator there was a couple there. We said hello and then got off at our separate floors. Well, when I got back from pilates and got in the elevator from the parking garage it stopped on the first floor. Who got in? The exact same couple! Random. Here is what happened next:

Elevator Girl: So do you live here?
K: Yes, Hi I'm Kristan
EG: Hi I'm (I'd insert her name, but I can't remember . . . clearly I cared)
{return of normal elevator silence}
EG: So are you finishing up your master's degree or something?

SERIOUSLY!?! I mean the answer is yes, but do I look that old? Yes, I am a good 5 years older than most people who live in this complex, but I'm not ancient and I definitely pass as a student. It took everything in me not to bust out laughing. Who says that?

What my response should have been:
Actually I'm just starting one.
or maybe
(all offended) No, I'm finishing my undergrad.

Hahahahah that hilarious. At least someone didn't say you looked like you were 30...as what happened to me the other night at dinner. People should just not mention age!

If 25 is the new old, Katie, Rachel, and I are in big trouble. Don't worry. With age comes great wisdom. You should have said, "Yes, I am finishing my GRAD degree. What are you planning to do with your life?"

You should have said, "I'm actually a professor here. When will you be applying?"

It wasn't your looks... it was your sophisticated manners and style that made you seem like an "older" gal. Yes, indeedy.
