2008 Summer Break

I can't believe it has happened, but my Summer Break is almost over. Today is my last full day in Georgia. I've been asked to give an update on my "Fun – but sometimes pointless and random – Things To Do This Summer" List. I have had a blast this summer - and done a lot of things not on this list - but my completion rate of the list itself is a bit pathetic. I barely passed with a 71 percent.

1. Become a lady who lunches with as many friends as possible - Check. I enjoyed my last few weeks in New York this way, and in Georgia I've lunched with my family and some old friends as well. My favorite mornings were when my Dad would call just as I was waking up at 11 and say, "Want to meet for lunch."
2. Walk the Brooklyn Bridge after eating Grimaldi’s while eating Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory ice cream - Check
3. Go to the Met’s Rooftop Terrace - Check
4. Go to a Today Show Concert - Check
5. Spa Day at Oasis - Check
6. “The Loop” - Check
7. NYC Cheesecake Showdown - Check
8. Shake Shack - Check
9. Pinkberry - Check (Oh what I would give for a Medium, Original with Strawberries, Granola and Yogurt Chips right now)
10. Buttercup - Check
11. Spice - Sadly no, I never quite made it.
12. Patsy’s - Check
13. Read in Central Park - Check
14. Visit the Whitney - Nope, I never quite made it.
15. Have a Jersey dinner night with the girls - Check (And I went to PF Changs last night with the fam, and it just wasn't the same.)
16. Go to the Natural History Museum - No, after living five blocks away for three years I still never made it.
17. Beach day at Sandy Hook - They raised the price of the ferry, so not Sandy Hook but a beach day in Long Island.
18. Play Wii all day in my pjs - Guitar Hero, check. Rock Band, check. Mario Kart, check. Smarty Pants, check. Even Wii Fit.
19. Watch Brother & Sister’s Season 2 - Check. I love this show. While I hated the writers' strike for so many reasons, this is one reason I don't hate it. It made me Netflix B&S. Thank you.
20. Finish HIMYM Season 1 - Check
21. Eat Bruster’s Key Lime Pie Ice Cream for breakfast - Check, I won't tell you how many times I've done this.
22. Go for a run at the LHS Track - I went to LHS to get Sam (actually, we went to scare her by hiding in the back of her car), but nope, no running.
23. Log a required minimum of 4 hours at the pool each week while in GA - Check, I will miss the pool.
24. Watch My So Called Life - Sadly, no. I do still want to watch this series though.
25. Make a Topsy Curvy cake with Caisa - Check, well kind of.
26. Take a baking class in Roswell - Nope, that would have required planning my daily activities before I woke up and half the day was already gone.
27. Create a recipe for some recipe contest - Not quite.
28. Make a Peach Pie - Check, in GA and San Antonio with Emily.
29. Jump on the trampoline once a week - Actually I haven't jumped on the trampoline once.
30. Watch movies/old TV shows in the theatre on an almost daily basis - Check, check, check. Oh Veronica. How I miss you. I think I have logged more hours in the theatre than my bed.
31. Play a game of tennis with Mom - Never happened
32. Go to the driving range with Dad - Nope
33. Visit Emily in Texas - Check
34. Take a trip out to “Dillon” landmarks - Check
35. Go to Hilton Head - Check
36. Eat at Lady and Sons (Paula Deen) in Savannah - No
37. Read the Josephine Bonaparte Series: - Check, Check and Check
38. The Many Lives and Secret Sorrow
39. Tales of Passion, Tales of Woe, and
40. The Last Great Dance on Earth
41. Re-read Gone with the Wind - Check
42. Read Rhett Butler’s People - No, I never could get into it.
43. Read Breaking Dawn - Currently reading.
44. Start reading the business section of the newspaper - Check, every morning over orange juice.
45. Hike Stone Mountain - Well, I went to Stone Mountain. I didn't so much hike it. I'm taking the point anyway.
46. Master Guitar Hero on medium - Definitely no. I now play on medium, but master - not even close.
47. Watch all of the Indiana Jones trilogy - Nope, I think I'll keep these movies on my list of "classics" that I've never seen - along with Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.
48. Go to as many Braves Games as possible - Check, two and one more tomorrow.
49. Visit the Atlanta Botanical Gardens - No
50. Take a City of Roswell tour - Professional tour, no. Walk around the shops "tour", yes.
51. Visit the Margaret Mitchell House - Yes. Mom, Caisa and I went on Monday and I quite enjoyed it. Did you know she was hit by a taxi and killed? I didn't.
52. Go bowling at Stuckeybowl - Sadly Stuckeybowl closed, but the family did go bowling.
53. Test drive a car - Check
54. Test drive one I’d never buy just for fun - No, but I have enjoyed "test driving" Dad, Mom, Caisa and Sam's cars, plus the Mustang.
55. Take roadtrips to some of the 1,000 Places to See Before You Die in the South as I can - I've been on a ton of trips and have seen some amazing places I'm glad I've seen before I die, so yes.

I can't believe it's over.

I started making a list like yours of stuff I wanted to do this summer and now that I wrote it, summer is practically over. Better luck next year!

I've loved your blog this summer -- it's like I'm living vicariously through you and I love it!

Actually, I'm pretty impressed with your 71% rate of completion.
