Please describe your idea of a perfect date - San Antonio

Last weekend I went to San Antonio to visit my friend Emily. Emily lived in New York while she was getting her Masters but has since moved back to San Antonio. Despite horrible travel delays, I had a fabulous weekend.

My first real visit to Texas started with some cowboy boots.

No seriously these are really big cowboy boots in a mall parking lot . . . everything is bigger in Texas, right!?

Then we went down to the River Walk and took a boat cruise.

Look familiar? If you didn't catch the title reference, this is where part of the Miss Congeniality beauty pageant was . . . and in case you forgot, I would have to say April 25th. Because it's not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket.

Then we walked over to the Alamo (which, who knew it was right in the middle of town).

We finished the evening with some really tasty Mexican food. I do love my chips and salsa.

Saturday, we floated down the Comal River. Since this post already references one chick flick, I think I'll throw in another one :) You know the scene in Drive Me Crazy - yes, that's the one with Melissa Joan Hart and Adrian Grenier, classic. Well the first thing that I thought of when we were renting our tubes and jumping in the freezing water was the scene in that movie where they go layout with the "cool kids" at the river. Pathetic? Maybe :) But the river was filled with college and "older" kids who rented an extra tube to hold there coolers full of beer. What's an afternoon on the river without your tube cooler? It was a lot of fun, and there were a few tube shoots throughout the river, adding a little excitement.

After the river, I had the best barbecue I have ever eaten. Seriously, I couldn't stop. Brisket, turkey, sausage, beans, potato salad . . . mmmm, so good.

Then we visited the historic Texan town of Gruene. There is an old-time General Store, restaurants, stops and Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas. Birthplace to many great songwriters and musicians and still a Texas favorite - sadly we didn't have any Matthew McConaughey sightings.

And the most important picture of the trip . . . In the past I've been known to take a few TV show related trips (Gilmore Girls New Haven, CT trip and My Boys Chicago trip), and if you know me at all you'll know about my obsession with Friday Night Lights. Emily went to Judson High School, where the football team has appeared in 12 state championship games, winning 6 titles, and now her brother is now a coach for the team. She gave me the run down on Texas high school football. If I ever thought the South was intense, I stand corrected. Thankfully Emily gave took me for a visit to see Coach, 33 and Saracen.

Thanks for a great weekend Emily!

I had a blast! Thanks for coming. Come again any time between Aug 28 and Dec 20 and you can catch one of our High school football games. You'd love living as a Panther for a day!

Those are some serious cowboy boots. I hope you had a great time in the Lone Star State. The Riverwalk is always a lot of fun to float down and walk through. I'm jealous once again.
