Sending Out An SOS - Live Earth

This Saturday I headed out to New Jersey with Karen C, Jen and Matt for the concert of all concerts - Live Earth! Over 24 hours, on 7 continents, taking place on 7/7/07, Live Earth was huge event to inspire and help solve the climate crisis.

It was a blast! It started at about 2:30, and I was a little worried it would be a long day, but I had a blast and the time flew. They did a great job of cutting down the time in between sets. On the stage was a huge rotating circle, so they would set up for one band while the other was performing, and in between they would show performances from other venues around the globe.

When we got to Giants Stadium we started walking up and up and up and up to our seats. We were literally the very last row in the stadium! But, when we got up there, a camera man had decided that our seats were the best place for him to get aerial shots of the crowd, which means – We were upgraded!! They moved us down to the first tier! It made the day even that much better :)

We missed the first few performers, so Keith Urban was the first we saw. And then Alicia Keys joined him for a cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter.” Up next was Ludacris, AFT, Fall Out boy, Akon, John Mayer, Melissa Etheridge, Alica Keys, Dave Matthews, Kelly Clarkson, Kanye West, Bon Jovi, Smashing Pumpkins, Roger Waters and The Police.

Everyone played about 30 minute sets and there were presentations from people like Al Gore, Kevin Bacon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz, Jane Goodall (chimp greeting and all), Petra Nemocova, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Abigail Breslin and more in between.

I must say the highlight for me was Bon Jovi! I would have never have guessed it before the concert, but wow! And it helps that New Jersey is obsessed – I’ve never seen a stadium go that crazy before. It was worth the price just to scream on the top of my lungs with 50,000 others while Bon Jovi rocked "Livin’ on a Prayer" at Giants Stadium. :)



The evening was finished with John Mayer and Kanye West joining The Police for "Message in a Bottle" – with the “sending out an S.O.S” refrain as the obvious closer to the worldwide event.
