It was a guided tasting through eight different types of chocolate - two milk and six dark, some single-plantation chocolate and varying cocoa percentages. The guide talked about the basics of chocolate, including the history and health benefits of chocolate, its transformation from bean to bonbon and the differences between various beans and cocoa percentages. It was a wonderful time. It was fun touching, smelling and tasting each kind. Even though I was only having a little bit of each piece, even I felt sick about half way through. It was a lot of chocolate!
I've always been a milk chocolate fan, but recently I've been trying to expand my palate and learn to appreciate dark. While I still think I like milk better overall - probably because you can have more of it :) - but last night there were a lot of darks I really liked. It was also amazing to see the difference just a few percentages of cocoa could make - a lot stronger smell and taste. It's also amazing that a single-plantation chocolate (all the cocoa beans are from the same plantation) is lots stronger than a chocolate that has beans from various plantations. And how the cocoa beans can pick up different tastes depending on where they are from and what else is being grown in the area.
Here are the different chocolates before:
It was such a fun experience; I would love to do again :)
Bottom line: I lava chocolate.

That sounds amazing! I know I would have enjoyed myself. I did a similar tour a couple of years ago when I lived in SLC, and definitely felt sick afterwards. Fun night!
Why don't I live in NYC? Next time I come...that is on my list of things to do! :)
Yes! I will so go again! In fact, maybe it should be my goal to go to every chocolate tasting in New York :)
