How has Kristan never been to a rodeo?
or
Kristan actually went to a rodeo?
My friend from NYC, Cassie, was in town last weekend. Cassie grew up in Santaquin and invited me down for the Santaquin Days Rodeo. I couldn't pass this up.
No one would believe me when I told them I had never been to a rodeo. I did not grow up in the wild, wild west. I certainly do not own any cowboy boots. I do not even remember hearing about any rodeos in Georgia - let alone my friends or family wanting to go.
Then, being the rodeo newbie, I started asking simple rodeo questions. How do they get the bulls to do that? What do these points mean? How long are they trying to stay on the bull? Again my friends laughed and asked how I had never seen 8 Seconds. Not only have I never seen it, but I had never heard of it. Luke Perry? A Baldwin? Nothing was ringing a bell. We all pulled out our phones to see when the movie was released - 1994. Yeah, I was 11. I only have one older sibling, plus we're all girls.
Needless to say, I was the weird, young, East Coaster of the night.
But now I've been to a rodeo. I've seen Saddle Bronc, Steer Wrestling, Barrel Racing, Team Roping, Bull Riding . . . oh and fireworks :) Now apparently I need to see 8 Seconds.
When asked what I thought of my first rodeo, "I kind of feel like I'm on FNL."
