Summer Reading

Planes, trains, pools, beaches and couches - here is what I've read so far this summer.

Loving Frank: A Novel
An interesting look at Frank Lloyd Wright - a story on his little known and scandalous affair with Mamah Cheney. Way too much affair, but a really interesting look at feminism, motherhood, marriage and the consequences of "freedom" for women in the early 20th century. A bestseller and on all sorts of book club lists, but I labored to finish it . . . and honestly wouldn't recommend it. But an unexpected and shocking ending.

The Girls from Ames: A Story of Women and a Forty-Year Friendship
Every woman can relate to this story about eleven childhood friends who formed a special bond growing up in Ames, Iowa. Sisterhood of the Travel Pants for women in their 40s. It makes you think about what friendship really is - and all of your friends.

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day
Absolutely adorable. I remember seeing the movie years ago, but the book just made me smile the whole way through. Funny, easy sunny afternoon read.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
I think the best way to describe this book is charming. Written in letters, I loved reading the story about love, friendship and the war in the aftermath of WWII.

Only the Good Spy Young
The fourth Gallagher Girls book in my young-adult fiction guilty pleasure from last summer. It did not disappoint. One day at the beach and I passed Cammie and Zack off to the sisters.

Little Bee: A Novel
Looking for a new book and missing my NYC book club I asked my friends what they had just read. This book pulled me in, and I loved it. Tragedy pulls two women together - a Nigerian orphan (who calls herself Little Bee) and a well-off British woman. Sad, moving and engaging with excellent character development.

Wow, now that I type it out that sounds like a lot.

This is em I'm on my iPod I have no clue how to sign in! Anyways I would love that first book. He was so nuts but I would love to know more about her. Homegirl knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid to go get it but I love that his wife held her ground too!
